It appears that one of the most successful fighters in the history of the UFC is hanging up his gloves.
Ireland’s Conor McGregor set the sports world abuzz earlier today with a cryptic tweet in which he announced that he would be retiring. The tweet was thought to be a troll job or hoax at first, but multiple sources have confirmed that it is serious and McGregor does intent to retire.
McGregor is currently scheduled for a rematch with Nate Diaz at UFC 200 in July, a match that UFC head honcho Dana White said McGregor is “obsessed” about. This makes the timing of his retirement even more intriguing.
If this is in fact the end for McGregor, he will already go down in UFC history with multiple records, including the single largest live gate for an MMA event.
