Ten years ago, maybe 15, nobody used the term selfie. Once upon a time, we called them pictures. Folks have taken pictures of themselves since the invention of the camera. The proliferation of the digital camera combined with smart phone technology is what forged the classification of selfies into our daily lexicon. Even non-English-speaking countries contort the word selfie into daily language. The selfie, like it or not, is its own thing, transcending language and culture. In fact, more often there is little culture needed, as you will see in some of these… ahem, selfies.
